The BEST Turkish Breakfast in Istanbul- Fitness and Travel Lover Edition
Updated: Feb 6
I can't count high enough to calculate the calories...
Ana and I have become slightly addicted to Turkish Breakfastssssss. It's just so perfect- eggs, multiples types of break, Turkish Tea, cucumbers and other veggies- all spread across a table in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Tough to beat.
While it would take decades to try all the Turkish Breakfasts offered throughout Istanbul, we did give it our best shot. We tried different neighborhoods, recommendations from locals, Google reviews, and random drop-ins to try new places. To be honest, we never had a really bad breakfast, which says a lot about the quality of food in Istanbul. However, there were some that were just over-the-top delicious.
Our favorite, Yiğit Sofram Gözleme ve Kahvaltı (yeah, it's a mouthful), is located in the neighborhood Beyoğlu and is tucked away on a quaint street that isn't too busy. I spotted this spot on Google Maps with high reviews and during our daily travels we asked some locals about it. All confirmed, this was going to be our spot.
The restaurant has an option to order Turkish Breakfast with all the fixin's include, but we opted to sample a few specific different things. I ordered the Special Sauce and Potatoes Eggs which came with cucumbers, olives, and the other sides you see pictured above. I also asked for a Turkish Tea and the Pancake with Tahini Walnuts. We didn't know what to expect with the "pancake" except we were sure they weren't going to be the pancakes that we knew of from the US. We are lucky they weren't! This toasted thin-crust pancake coated in cinnamon and nuts was the most delicious part of the meal!
I'm a bit ashamed to admit this, but the service and food were so good that we ate at this restaurant 3 times in 3 weeks. We continuously tried other restaurants but they just couldn't compare. And I ordered the same meal each time!
This meal obviously isn't going to be low in calories- it's one of those not-so-healthy posts. But if you're looking for a bit of a cheat meal- this is the one.
